Giving some thought to trading grain tables. Is there a lot of problems mating a 600 series JD head to a 9000 series machine. I have not looked at this very closely yet. I realize they have the driveshafts instead of the roller chain hookup but wondering about height and speed controls. I'm guessing someone here has been through this and would welcomme your thoughts and ideas. Thanks, Joe

Joe, I have a neighbor that tied a 620F to his 9400. If memory serves me correct, it cost him around $3000 for the update. I can give you his number if you want.

Deere makes a kit for the 9000 series combines. You should have no trouble, it will just cost you some green to do it. Talk to your dealer, they will be able to do it.

I am not saying you can't do it JD makes the harness and plates but it wont work anything close to the way it works on a new machine, just not the same setup.

Go look at one that has been converted and then compare it to a new machine,it will not cut the same, been down that road along with others.

Big $$$ from what I am told. We just bought a used 925F from some local guys who went to a 60 series combine. They were told over $4,000 just for parts to convert the 925. They bought a 625F instead. Their platform is spotless, and has the full finger auger unlike the 925 we traded in.

It all depends on how your machine is setup, If you want single point hook up it will cost money but I know of quite a few flex heads on pre 60 series combines around hear that have just the regular hook-up like the older combines, for the drive shaft you can get a stub shaft that will both on the sprocket on the combine to convert it to 21 spline drive, the only thing that would cost a lot of money is if you have a pre 60 series with contour master then you have to replace the front feeder house frame and that gets to be quite spendy other wise it is not that bad just need the hooks for the feederhouse, will agree that it won't be the same a new head on a new machine but will be a lot better than it was before don't let they guys scare you away at least call lankota and get a price quote it probably won't be that bad depending on what you want to do and you will be a lot happier with a newer head. I assume you're talking about connecting to a 9500 or 9600 as opposed to 9650 or newer. With the older combines you lose the hydraulic action of the new head and you run only with electric sensors like a 900 series head. I think that's what Don is trying to say in his posts and I agree with him. You will get just as good performance from a 900 series head for a lot cheaper if you can find one in decent shape. Also I have seen a lot of machines that really need a wedge kit to set the head at the right angle. It makes a ton of difference. If you set your feeder house so the top is at a certain height (37"?? someone help me here) the front face should be vertical. If not you need wedge.

As A CIH combine owner I find this thread an interesting read. Awhile back I posted that we were looking at purchasing a new CIH 6088 combine & that the new 3212 cornhead we had on order wouldn't fit withouy using an adapter and made a comment that CIH was getting like JD in that heads for newer combines wouldn't fit older machines & vice versa and was shortly flamed by someone, don;t remember who nor do I care, that any JD head would fit onto any JD combine without any problems. Yep, as long as you want spend more $$$, just like CIH

I think there are alot of missinformed people here. To put a 600 head on a 9500-9600 you only need 4 things---
1. The two hooks replace the two 'camel humps' on the top front of the feederhouse--$600 I think.
2. The drive shaft on the head needs a spline adapter bolted onto the combine--$120 I think.
3. The control for the Flex Head gets installed into the cab-- A guage and control knob--$1600.
4. The single point Hyd/Electrical Hookup needs to be adapted either the head to combine or combine to the head. $500-1500.
I think I was quoted $3000 to do all this. Was going to trade, but the soy drop, and economy............

I read that thread, you accused Deere of forcing people to buy new heads when they buy combines or vice versa. You can adapt pretty much any new head to an older combine for >$2000 (unless it's an older one with contour master)and any head to a new combine for less than $500.

April of 2008:
Feederhouse conversion kit 431.98
Hydraflex conversion kit 394.91
Multipoint hook up conversion kit 367.64
Headsight electronic control conversion kit 693.26
This was to hook 630F to 9610
There were some additional costs to change the hose routing for everything.
Installed easy.
Doesn't work as well as the 930F I took off but that could be caused my any number of things. All in all when I see a deal on another 930F I will probably go back. The cost of repair parts on the 630 are 2 to 3 times the price on 900 parts as well.

You all are forgetting the wedge kit and once you weld it in you are stuck with it,better hope if fits with the tires, and don't forget you cannot fine tune the platform like you do on the new combines.

It works but again you wont like it. Nothing close to the way it was designed to work on a new machine

Our dealership quit putting wedge kits on them two years after they came out. They said they now only put them on if people have trouble whichis very rare.We run a 635 on a 9650 without a wedge kit that works every bit as good as the 635 before it that had a wedge kit. It doesn't work quiteas good as the head on the 9760 but that's only because of the contour master.600 series heads are worth every extra penny over a 900 in our experience.

Don I know what it depends on. We do all of the installations of that type of stuff. That particular combine calls for a wedge kit yet runs fine without one.

I don't know about others but our wedge kit bolts on and was from Deere. I will have to say I have no idea how anyone can be happy with these heads. Unless they have changed them the gaurds pointing down wouldn't let us run as soon as it got a little damp. We changed to SCH and have the head dragging on the backside just so we can run.

The key to the 600 heads is run them tilted back further than the book says. We set the feeder house face an extra 5 deg. back on our new combines. Just a slight adjustment makes a huge difference in # of broken guards and damp condition pushing. John Deere wedge kits bolt on, NO WELDING, so it comes right off. Also switch back to the 900 series guards. Way cheaper and stronger. The quality of cut and flex on 600 is so much better than a 900F i dont see how you would ever want to go back, but then we dont have flat ground and 1/2 mile rows like most others. And to the complaints about companies dont make old work with new. Of course they dont, they made the new head with new technology to better match the demands of new combines, and not to improve 10 year old combine performance. Hope you get that 9000 to work with your 600 head.

We converted a 608C corn head to multi-point hookup using Lankota's setup for a 9610 and worked great. We didn't bother with the header height conversion because we didn't think it was necessary on a corn head. We are still using 930s so I haven't had any experience with the 600 flex heads.

Joe, don't do it!!!!!! Lots of reasons! Tire sizes, rear axle positions, wedge kits(then a crappy wide distance from auger to front F/H drum), simply junk design on the stainless floor pans on 600 H-Flex, junk I mean junk Dura junk twin sections, junk again i say junk gards, weak back bones on any earlier 600 H-flex, wow and so much more. Email in profile, phone call after that and keep or find ya a great (hard to find sometimes) 900.

Have a great day, DeereTopher

EDIT: Joe some of these weaker points on the 600 Hydra-Flex, are really amplified with a few stones, your mapdot is pretty close to mine, I betcha you could have a rock on the farm somewhere???
