Critics Consensus

Suitably grand and special effects-laden, The Wolfman suffers from a suspense-deficient script and a surprising lack of genuine chills.

The Wolfman | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Sure, it's more sinister and gory (ridiculously so at times), but Del Toro's acting is a standout. Rated: B+ Sep 11, 2017 Full Review The Wolfman | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Keith Uhlich Time Out When the beast finally bursts forth, the character becomes, for the most part, a digitally augmented blur - there's no room for a performance underneath all the 0s and 1s. Rated: 1/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review The Wolfman | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Flounders in its stabs at epic action-horror grandeur. Rated: C- Jun 28, 2010 Full Review The Wolfman | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …better than a dire reputation suggests; it’s clearly a loving attempt to revise a classic story, with top talent all on message, and a few neat moments for genre fans to enjoy, even if the final wolf-on-wolf fight is risible… Rated: 3/5 Jul 13, 2024 Full Review The Wolfman | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Where the film suffers is its lack of involvement in the crucial levels of emotion and suspense, the driving forces of the original film. Had those essential elements of the story been developed further, this would be an effortless recommendation. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 22, 2023 Full Review The Wolfman | Rotten Tomatoes (6) James Croot Stuff.co.nz Those hoping for a knockabout action movie in the mould of the similarly set Sherlock Holmes will be sorely disappointed by this po-faced, moody, broody and sometimes slow film. Nicholas L What’s not to like? Wolfman, cool. Effects, cool for 2010, actors, cool. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Larry L Once again the critics have shocked me by giving this movie such a low rating. I actually own this movie on DVD I just watched it again. And it's just as good to me now as it was the other three times I've watched it. I think you people are not watching the movies you're just listening to other people's talk. This is hands down better than most horror movies put out today including long legs which got a very high score pitiful. The main character isn't isn't even listed in your credits of actors. Pitiful Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Chief B Very underrated!! I like this movie Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Josh R This movie is oozing with gothic atmosphere, somehow more so than the first. But the overuse of CGI and the rushed production takes this otherwise pretty good remake down a few pegs. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review steve d I don't understand why this movie has bad reviews. It's pretty solid. I guess we were spoiled back then and we didn't realize how truly crappy movies would be by 2024. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Julian S A formulaic remake for the digital age that also manages to be extremely boring.
