Updated December 23, 2023, by Charles Burgar: The Gunsmith has received an overhaul in Season of the Wish. Leveling up your Gunsmith Rank now awards Gunsmith Engrams. Banshee-44 can decrypt these engrams into specific world drop weapons, allowing you to target-farm specific world drop loot. We've updated this guide to explain how Gunsmith Engrams work, how to earn them, and every weapon you can focus them into. We've also updated the Gunsmith Rank progress you receive from Gunsmith Bounties and dismantled gear.

Banshee-44 has a unique reward track that grants upgrade materials, including Ascendant Alloys. As you complete bounties and dismantle gear for Banshee, you'll build up your Gunsmith Rank to unlock new rewards. Gunsmith Rank follows the same system as Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit. How To Increase Your Gunsmith Rank

You only have two ways of increasing your Gunsmith Rank in Destiny 2:

  1. Completing daily Gunsmith bounties.
  2. Dismantling items.

Let's go over how both methods contribute to your overall rank.

Daily Gunsmith Bounties

Repeatable bounties do not give Gunsmith Rank progress.

Banshee-44 sells four daily Gunsmith bounties that grant +65 Gunsmith Rank when completed. These bounties are quite simple, requiring you to get a certain number of kills with a particular weapon or damage type. These bounties refresh every day and are per character. We recommend farming Moon Lost Sectors to finish these bounties quickly.

Dismantling Items

Dismantling weapons and armor in Destiny 2 grants a small amount of Gunsmith Rank progress. The rarity of the item you dismantle determines how much progress you gain:

  • Rare: N/A
  • Legendary: +7 Gunsmith Rank progress
  • Exotic: +7 Gunsmith Rank progress

Legendary and Exotic gear grants the same progress. Dismantling Ghost Shells, Ships, and Sparrows does not give Gunsmith Rank progress. There is no limit to how much progress you can earn by dismantling gear. If you're close to reaching a new Gunsmith rank and desperately need the rewards, consider cleaning out your Vault.

Earning Gunsmith Engrams

Destiny 2: How To Increase Your Gunsmith Rank (6)

Banshee-44 has received his own dedicated Engram called Gunsmith Engrams in Season of the Wish. These engrams may be focused at Banshee to target farm specific world drop items. We cover his focusing options in the next section.

Unlike most vendors, Banshee-44's Gunsmith Engrams can drop from multiple sources.

  • Gunsmith Ranks (100% chance)
  • Patrol Chests (20% chance)
  • Lost Sector Chests (20% chance)
  • Legend Lost Sector Chests (40% chance)
  • Master Lost Sector Chests (60% chance)

The Fastest Gunsmith Engram Farm

The best Gunsmith Engram farm is to open patrol chests. Each chest you open has a 20% chance of containing a Gunsmith Engram. You can easily find these chests by equipping a Wombo Detector mod on your Ghost Shell. Sniper Rifles with a high zoom value will further boost the 50m range on Wombo Detector.

Gunsmith Engram Focusing

Destiny 2: How To Increase Your Gunsmith Rank (7)

Gunsmith Engrams may be focused at Banshee-44 to earn specific world drop weapons. Unlike most vendors, Banshee's focusing options rotate every day. Two weapon foundries are chosen on a set rotation each day, allowing you to earn world drop weapons from either manufacturer.

Each weapon focusing option costs 3 Gunsmith Engrams and 5,000 Glimmer.

Focusing options rotate in the following order as of Season of the Wish:

  1. Omolon and Suros.
  2. Suros and Häkke.
  3. Häkke and Veist.
  4. Veist and Omolon.

This pattern repeats for the entire season. Each manufacturer offers their world drop weapons that were released between Witch Queen and Lightfall. Any weapons released before then will not appear in Banshee's focusing options.

The Fastest Gunsmith Rank Farm

Destiny 2: How To Increase Your Gunsmith Rank (12)

Unfortunately, there isn't a real fast farm for Gunsmith Rank. Out of all progression systems, this is the slowest of the bunch. With that said, there are two strategies you can use to increase your Gunsmith Rank as fast as possible:

  1. Farm daily bounties.
  2. Farm items to dismantle for reputation.

Daily Bounty Farm

Destiny 2: How To Increase Your Gunsmith Rank (13)

If the name didn't give it away, you'll be completing all four of Banshee's daily bounties on all three of your characters. Boot up your character, buy all four of his bounties, then complete them. We recommend farming a Lost Sector to get these bounties done quickly. Turn in the bounties, log onto another character, and repeat.

You'll get 585 Gunsmith Rank progress each day with this farm. That's not enough to quickly reach Legend rank with Banshee, but this is the fastest farm available without resorting to our second strategy.

Item Dismantle Farm

Destiny 2: How To Increase Your Gunsmith Rank (14)

This farm burns through Legendary Shards and Glimmer. You'll want 10,000 or more Legendary Shards for this farm to be worthwhile.

You'll create items from your collections page and dismantle them, effectively turning Legendary Shards and Glimmer into Gunsmith Rank. Be warned: this consumes an absurd number of Legendary Shards.

For this farm to work, you'll need a weapon or armor piece that can be recreated from your collections. Increase your rank with each vendor until you can purchase an armor piece from that destination. This should unlock that item in your collection, allowing you to recreate it for Legendary Shards and Glimmer.

Weapons and armor purchased from Devrim Kay (EDZ) or Failsafe (Nessus) work for this farm.

Now that you have an item you can replicate, head to the collections tab and make as many copies of that item as possible. Dismantle them, and repeat until you've earned enough Gunsmith Rank or ran out of materials. Should you run out of Glimmer, speak to Rahool to exchange some of your Legendary Shards or deprecated materials into Glimmer.
